PRACTICE CHECK LIST FOR PIANO STUDENTS:
- Have I played all the notes correctly?
- Have I observed all the fingering marking? (They are there to help you play the piece/song more smoothly, accurately and more quickly (increased speed).)
- Have I played all the rhythms correctly?
- Have I observed all the dynamics (louds and softs (f, mf, mp, p), cresendos (gradually getting louder), decrescendos (gradually getting softer)?
- Have I observed all the additional markings that add feeling or mood to the piece song? (accents, meter emphasis on strong and weak beats, staccato, legato sections or slurs, phrasing)
- Have I recorded the song/piece on a recording device to see if I can play it without pauses or stops? (Is it performance ready?)
- Have I sung all the notes correctly (pitch)?
- Have I sung all the rhythms correctly?
- Have I observed all the breathe marks? (They are there to help you sing the piece/song more smoothly/lyrically, to go along with the musical line or poetry)
- Have I observed all the dynamics (louds and softs (f, mf, mp, p), cresendos (gradually getting louder), decrescendos (gradually getting softer)?
- Have I internalized the feeling or mood to portray the character/intent of the piece/song? (accents, meter emphasis on strong and weak beats, staccato, legato sections or slurs, phrasing)
- Have I recorded the song/piece on a recording device to see if I can sing it without pauses or stops? (Is it performance ready?)
